A little bio about me and about this space

Starr Dunigan (She/her/hers) is a veteran journalist who has spent the past nine years chronicling the different ways Black people continue the practice of cultivating liberative Black joy in their lives. During her days as a night reporter, she received a question from a Black woman: Why do you only come when we are dead?

That concern sparked a series of articles illustrating how people were using their own "Black magic" (their skills, talents, etc.) to improve their neighborhoods. That project has since evolved into Black Joy Behind the Scenes: a community-centered media brand empowering readers across the African diaspora through storytelling and events.
